Why Mentekit exists, who made it and what it is not.

Why Mentekit

Tools that help people with ADHD, a specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia, or autism already exist: a timer that shows time passing, a picture schedule, a voice that reads aloud, a times table grid. But they are scattered: programs to install, subscription apps, sheets found at random. Mentekit puts them in one place, free, with no account and no ads.

Everything works in your browser. The texts you paste, your schedules, your lists: nothing is sent to a server. After your first visit it also works without internet, and on a phone you can add it to your Home screen like an app.

How it is made

I built it with the help of artificial intelligence and I check every page myself. The choices come from laws and guidelines (the Italian Law 170/2010 and 2011 guidelines on learning difficulties, the Italian National Institute of Health, NICE) and from research: you will find them all in Sources. When something is just a matter of comfort, we say so: for example, “dyslexia” fonts and coloured backgrounds do not improve reading for everyone, while wide letter spacing does.

What it is not

Mentekit does not diagnose anything and it is not a therapy. It does not replace your doctor, a child psychiatrist, a psychologist or a speech and language therapist. If you have a concern about your child, a pupil or yourself, talk to your GP or paediatrician.

Part of a family of sites

Mentekit is a sister site of Oplaland, free learning games for every child, with the same settings for dyslexia, ADHD and autism.

Who's behind this

Ciro Simone Irmici

I built Mentekit with the help of artificial intelligence, and I check everything on it myself, starting from guidelines and research. I am not a doctor or a speech therapist: I build useful, free tools. If you find a mistake or have an idea, write to me.
